Anyone can have gorgeous red lips that last a long time if you know a few tricks. Katrina Szish of InStyle Magazine shows how to apply red lipstick like a pro.





How to Apply Red Lipstick

There are many shades of red lipstick out there, so it's important that you find a shade of red that will match your skin tone. Make sure to work with someone at the cosmetics counter to determine the right shade for you. Here are the steps to creating perfectly beautiful red lips that will last all day long:

* Fill in the natural line of your lips with a lip liner.
* Fill in the rest of your lips with the lip liner. It does not need to be perfect; this step stains the lips, providing a good base.
* Using a good lip brush, apply the lipstick to your lips following the lines defined by your lip liner. Replenish your brush as you go along.
* If you mess up, use your finger or a Q-tip to get the color back into place. If the color stains your skin, apply concealer or foundation to cover the mistake.
* After applying the first coat, press your lips together to distribute the color evenly on both lips.
* For great coverage and staying power, apply several coats of lipstick with your lip brush.
* Rub your lips together and fill in any spaces that look a little empty.
* For the final touch, apply the color directly from the lipstick itself by lightly applying over the center of your lips. Do not apply to the edges, where it is easy to make a mistake.
* Blot your lips with a tissue. This is the final step to creating perfect red lips that will last all day long. Mmmwwwah!
